Homecoming and the Fall ’24 Progress Report

*dlbwck!* Howdy, my fellow Deltas and Delta enthusiasts. Happy early Halloween! As the veil between ghouls and ghosts and monsters and men begins to thin, ole *dlbwck!* finally got to a computer to give an update on what’s been happening at the Delta House. Deltas of all stripes hosted three key events this past October.

Here’s a rundown on what happened.

Michelbook

Great speakers, great food, great memories.

First up was a scrumptious homecoming dinner at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville. Not only was Delta Psi Delta celebrating 120 years, but it was also our 20th edition of this homecoming tradition. Brothers and alumni arrived early for a mixer to tell tales about their time in the house.

After tucking in for some excellent nosh, our master of ceremonies, Larry Baker (’64), formally announced the recipients of Delta Psi Delta’s first ever Housing Grant: Cole Alva and Logan Frazier-Smith.

Both brothers were congratulated by Baker and Becky Johnson, interim president of Linfield University. Baker and Johnson delivered words on the spirit and resilience of the Deltas.

Meeting

The next morning, the combined boards of the Delta Psi Delta Fraternity, Educational Foundation, 369 College Ave and Alumni Association met at 369 College Ave. to give out progress reports, undertake old business and replenish the boards with new chair members.

The Alumni Association welcomed newly elected chair, Weston Lawrence (’22) while the 369 Board welcomed David Betts and Jim Harger (Spring ’15) to their ranks. You can access the minutes of the meeting from our Facebook group page.

Barbecue

After the meeting, and just before the Linfield Wildcats football team kicked off against the Lewis and Clark Pioneers, Delta Psi Delta hosted a fantastic tailgate/barbecue commemorating our 120 years as an organization. David Betts, donning his El Jefe persona, oversaw a menu that included steak bites, chicken drumsticks and wings, as well as grilled cucumber and other salads. We even had cake!

For all those who visited Delta Psi Delta over the weekend, the brothers and alumni want to extend you a hearty thank you. For all those who missed it, don’t worry, we took care of the cake.

Tee-Shirts!

Look’s pretty good, if I don’t say so myself.

Commemorative tee-shirts designed by Adrian Duncan-Valdez (’19) were available for purchase throughout the weekend, with proceeds going to benefit the 369 College Ave. Corporation which oversees maintenance of the Delta Psi Delta house.

Shirts are still available in all sizes. You can contact us at dpdalumni@gmail.com to learn more and place an order. Act quickly to snag one of these snazzy shirts, supplies are limited!

Upcoming Events

Be on the look out for future events! The brothers are close to Brotherhood Week and another Fifth Thursday is just around the corner; ole *dlbwck!* has been informed by our own Jack Collins that, due to scheduling conflicts, Fifth Thursday will be hosted on Nov. 7th. Last Words

It was quite the full slate, this past Homecoming. To be honest, after the COVID-19 pandemic, the path to this year almost seemed impossible. But that would have been to give up on the dream; the dream that a local fraternal organization can succeed. That higher education doesn’t just mean learning skills in the classroom, but also learning skills in the chapter room.

This little project of ours has already lasted 120 years, elected multiple presidents, withstood two pandemics (two, *dlbwck!*), and seen countless brothers add something new to its structure, be that physical, managerial or spiritual. The amount of friends made at Delta Psi Delta has to be so astronomical, Galileo would run out of stars to count them by.

Who is to say that we can’t continue this experiment of fraternal feelings just that little bit longer?

Here’s to the next 120 years!
